PROJECT: Replacement of 100 x 400W Metal Halide High Bay Fittings with 100 x 110W SunRAY10 LED Fittings

Kerry Foods is a leading producer of chilled consumer food products in Irish and UK markets. Kerry Foods brands are household names including category leading brands such as Wall’s, Mattessons, Richmond, Denny, Galtee, Roscrea, Shaws, Ballyfree, Dawn, Cheestrings, Charleville, Mitchelstown, Low Low and Dairygold to name but a few.

The Kerry Foods management at it’s National Distribution Centre chilled warehouse facility have a keen focus on energy saving measures and on reducing their operational costs. They decided to implement a swap/replace programme for the existing 400W Metal Halide High Bay fittings throughout the chilled warehouse. The original fittings were mounted at a height of 10 metres along the aisles and at 3.5m near the loading bays and sandwich picking areas.

The SunRAY10, 110W modular LED fitting from Low Energy Designs was chosen to replace the original metal halide fittings. They were mounted in the same locations and at the same height yet provided increased lux levels and better quality of lighting in the aisles, loading bays and sandwich picking areas. The lighting solution was implemented with passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors located at each end of the aisles and at some other entry/exit points in the facility for maximum strategic positioning. This means that during low traffic periods in the facility, the lights in certain areas would switch off, only to switch back on when the PIR motion sensor would be triggered by someone entering the area.
