Public Area Flood and Street Lighting

[The Square, Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland]

PROJECT: Installation of Low Energy Designs SunBURST™ 88 Watt and SunFIRE™ 77 Watt LED luminaires to replace 400 Watt Metal Halide Floodlights and 70 Watt SON Streetlights for Tralee Town Council.

[The Square using Metal Halide and SON Lighting]

Before: The Square using Metal Halide and SON Lighting (Total 5.06 kW)

[The Square using Low Energy Designs LED Lighting]

After: The Square using Low Energy Designs LED Lighting (Total 1.61 kW)

The expectations of the project for Tralee Town Council and the ESB (Electricity Supply Board) were to deploy a public area LED lighting solution that would fulfil the following criteria:

  • To provide comparable or better lighting levels within the selected area
  • To provide consistent and evenly distributed light within the selected area
  • To provide dramatic savings in power consumption and maintenance costs
  • To provide an ability to customize the lighting levels

The independent evaluation provided the following results:

  • Reduced initial capital outlay by 2 luminaries from original installation.
  • Increased illuminance minimum average light level by 1.8 lux
  • Provided an overall saving of 68.1%, excludes the % savings from the maintenance.
