LED Field Hardware & Luminaire Technology

The LED light fittings shall come housed in a high quality cast Aluminium body and the housing shall be typically cast by a 900T type die-cast machine or equivalent and have a strong and compact structure. Other materials could be used e.g. Thermo plastics or polycarbonate assemblies for consideration for specific aspects of the installation.

All manufacturers’ data sheets and technical information to demonstrate the form and shape of the various proposed LED light fittings can be supplied upon request.

Coatings & IP Rating.

The light fittings are finished with a high quality powder coated finish and provide an Ingress Protection rating of IP65 or better for an outdoor product, IP55 for an indoor fitting.

Outer Lens.

The light fittings shall incorporate a scientifically engineered fitting specific lens array that is manufactured from Makrolon 2407 low viscosity, UV stabilised material which shall be used as the outer lens which shall provide effective transparency, heat resistance and uniform light distribution to achieve the required light patterns and illumination requirements.

Light Pattern Adjustment.

As required for certain applications the light fittings incorporate an on-board adjustment mechanism that allows for the light pattern to be varied and adjusted to suit specific installation requirements and to suit variations in height to allow for onsite adjustments to be carried out for optimised light coverage.

High Flux LED’s

The LED aspect of the light fitting shall incorporate High flux LED’s with only licensed LED die technology being used for the LED array associated with the fitting. We clearly state the technology and the manufacturers used to comply with this aspect of the requirement.  Proof of licensing of die technology can be made available.

We are able to supply actual data / proof of total luminous flux at 0 hour and at 4,000 hrs only allowing for a less than 2% drop in light output within the supplied housing, supplying the LED manufacturers predicted data for the LED is NOT accurate this is sufficient.

LED Life Expectancy

The life expectancy of the LED’s associated with the LED light fittings are rated at a minimum of 70,000 hours @ L70 or over 57,000 hours at the new LM80 criteria.  We can provide actual data clearly demonstrating how the performance was measured.

Control of LED Junction Temperature

We offer the only LED technology function of the light fitting and electronics associated with the fitting which incorporates the ability to monitor and ensure the LED PN (Positive/Negative) Junction Temperature (Tj) is capable of being maintained at or below eighty (80) degrees Celsius. We also have the ability to set the maximum level of the PN junction for the light fixture.  PN junction test results of the fixtures are available to support our claims.

LED Light Fitting Options

Suppliers shall have the ability to offer licensed LED die / chip technology where the fitting is available in a range of:

  • a)         Cool White        (5,000Kelvins – 10,000Kelvins),
  • b)         Neutral White     (3,700K – 5,000K)
  • c)         Warm White      (2,600K – 3,700K)

Suppliers should state clearly any other colour temperature LED variations that are available.

Or as required a Colour combination of any input colour based on a licensed die /chip technology providing a full colour spectrum from the Red/Green/Blue (RGB) range of LED light fittings

The LED light fitting is capable of being fitted with a variety of secondary optical lenses to provide additional variation for the distribution of light where it is required.

Colour Rendering Index (CRI)

The colour rendering Index for the LED components of the light fitting is equal to or better than 75% (Ra greater than or equal to 75). This CRI level should remains constant throughout the life of the unit and remains within 7 macadam elliptical steps for constant white point stability.

Fault Tolerance

The light fitting shall incorporates a fault tolerant design aspect where possible to the assembly and electronic components to ensure that in the event of one or two LED drivers failing, the fitting should continue to illuminate and not fail outright.

Operating Voltages

The light fitting shall operate from a number of universal power sources ranging from 90 -295 VAC (AC Mains Input), 20 – 28V DC and 127 – 380V DC (DC LED Load Input Voltage). The light fitting shall be capable of maintaining full operations where Power Supply efficiency is fluctuating between 85 – 90% or better.

The power supplies used to drive the individual light fittings’ is capable of operations in a high operating temperature range and has a minimum MTBF rating of 150k hours @ 40C.

Programmable Power Consumption

The light fitting incorporates the ability to increase or decrease its power consumption across the full range of rated power consumption of the LED fitting – e.g. a standard LED fitting should have a programmable power output range from 0 % to 100% of rated power across the standard product range.

Power Ramping

The individual light fitting incorporates a power ramping function where the fitting has the ability to be programmed to ramp up or ramp down the power outputs over a programmable time period to different power output levels over a user definable period ranging from 1 second to 120 minutes.

Operating Temperatures

The light fitting is capable of operating in the Temperature Range of Minus 30° Celsius to Plus 65° Celsius as the ambient temperature.

Interactive Ambient Light Adjustment

The light fitting incorporates a built-in photocell for auto adjusting power output levels depending on detected ambient light levels of an in built and on board photovoltaic (PV) sensor  e.g. The individual light fitting incorporates an automatic light levelling facility where the lights can dim or switch on/off depending on the ambient light levels in the areas

Thermal Management. (Patent in process)

The light fitting incorporates a way of demonstrating and controlling and setting the upper limit threshold on the LED fitting to ensure that the temperature of the P-N Junction on the LED’s is maintained within manufacturers recommendations.

This is in addition to effective convection thermal control facilities.
