Project: To create a stimulating environment by installing LED lighting

The Brief -

AcadeMedia, which owns and operates Design High School is investing in new LED lighting to help provide students with a better study environment, whilst saving maximum energy.

The Solution -

In lecture halls and study rooms, our dimmable Sky Panel 66 with daylight white light at 5300 Kelvin were installed. This LED panel is energy efficient with an efficiency factor of over 120 lumens per watt. It provides a luminous flux of 4650 lumens and is fully dimmable between 0-100% via DALI or 10VDC. The high luminous flux minimises the number of luminaires, which also reduces installation costs. The panels are only 12 millimeters thick and can therefore be installed with minimal space between the ceiling and the roof. The Sky Panel 66 provides a soft and comfortable light with a glare value (UGR) lower than 19.

In collaboration with AcadeMedia, we developed a smart and simple concept for lighting control. Turning the lights on and off is handled by an extra smart presence sensor which provides 'short visit mode'. This means that if someone forgets a pencil in a classroom and goes in to fetch it, the lighting will only turn on for a short while. If you stay and have a lesson in the room, the lighting will remain on. Dimming of lighting takes place via a rotary dimmer in front of the whiteboard so that teachers do not have to go to the door every time the light level is to be changed. A rotary dimmer is intuitive for everyone and in addition cheaper than advanced stage selectors that are rarely used. Each light came with WAGO connectors for efficient installation.

Installed in corridors and café areas, the Glow 165 CTC is a simple but effective downlight. This product has the ability to dim and change colour temperature from 3000-5700 Kelvins via remote hand or wall control. This means that in gathering areas you can change from daylight white light to a warm cosy light in the evenings. This provides flexibility for different school activities throughout the day and night!

The new lighting has received very positive comments from students and teachers at the school.
