Project: Better light levels along with energy and cost savings.

The Brief -

Blakell Europlacer develop and manufacture equipment for electronic assembly and have been doing so since the 1970's!

Europlacer contacted us to switch their current lighting to LED. They required better light levels along with energy and cost savings. After a site evaluation, we produced a detailed lighting design and proposal against their current lighting.

The Solution -

On the shop floor the lighting consisted of 43 x 400w high bays, we chose to replace these with our intelligent LumiOPTIMA 5218. The LumiOPTIMA 5218 is fully dimmable and runs at 180 watts. Providing 27672 lumens and a colour temperature of 5300 kelvins, it’s contemporary and engineered design makes this the ideal choice for maximising light and minimising power. By installing our LumiOPTIMA we increased Europlacer's light levels by 30%!

During commissioning we worked with Europlacer to find out what best suits the needs of their staff. Utilising our intelligent controls we programmed the lights to switch off or dim down if motion is not detected. Various configuration settings were applied in different areas of the shop floor to suit the differing needs of the employees. Motion Detection helps to reduce costs further when there is low footfall in the warehouse, whilst Daylight Harvesting changes the light output according to the ambient (natural) light levels, increasing savings on brighter, sunnier days.

In demo and meeting rooms, the existing 72w panels were replaced with our 35w Sky Panel CTC. This slimline product is a high efficiency light fitting that provides over 3337 lumens. The Sky Panel 66 CTC benefit from having colour temperature changes ranging from 3,000 Kelvins to 5,700 Kelvins. With ELP technology, a totally even light surface is created which spreads the light evenly throughout the room. A simple hand held controller can adjust the temperature and also the brightness levels.

RGB panels were also installed to showcase Europlacer's products.

“We were looking for a way to save money on energy usage, improve the lighting in the building and save on costs of replacing bulbs and maintenance on the old lights. After contacting LED, they evaluated our site and came up with a detailed lighting design and ROI under 2 years.

The LumiOPTIMA product gave us the flexibility of a good light with the ability to change lumens, timings and sensitivity of the motion detection. We also replaced our ageing tube panel lights in our Demo room and Meeting rooms with LED’s Sky Panel CTC. These give a clean modern look to the rooms and also give us the ability to change the colour from warm to cool white. The brightness can also be changed to suit the particular needs of the people using the meeting rooms.

We had an issue with a light failing after 1 week but this was quickly replaced and we have not had any issues since.

LED gave us advice and details on funding opportunities within our area. In a bid to reduce our carbon footprint, our project was part funded by Low Carbon Dorset as part of the European Regional Development Fund and will save over 30 tonnes of CO2 each year!”
