The new LED lighting is expected to achieve the following:

Project: To boost commercial activities, enhance security, improve citizens standard of living and boost the aesthetics of the State.

The Brief -

On Monday 5th March 2018, our CEO Alan Parker and the Lagos State Government signed a contract to supply and install over 10,000 street lights covering 300km of road in Lagos.

The £5 million+ project will see a full turn-key solution being delivered, incorporating our energy efficient LED lighting and intelligent control systems combined with our state-of-the-art HESS (Hybrid Energy Storage System). Our intelligent LED lighting solutions will initially cover around 31% of the city’s entire street light infrastructure and are expected to improve environmental sustainability, provide energy savings and reduce maintenance costs.

The Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) deployed as part of this project is a scalable, power supply cycling system capable of powering an average home or large business premises by storing and using renewable or off-peak energy.

Another part of Phase 1 included retrofitting old lighting with new intelligent LED lighting solutions, as well as replacing currently damaged lighting poles and cables in areas such as Kara Bridge to Berger, Third Mainland Bridge, Akin Adesola Street and Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island.

The Solution -

The lighting used for the road projects will be based on a combination of three of our LED products, the Phoenix ULTRA, SunBURST and Norrsken all proven to reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and allow the customer to be in control of light intensity, power and remote maintenance, thus reducing costs. Our LED lighting products have been used extensively outdoors on almost every continent in the world for over 10 years.

In conjunction with these projects we aim to provide jobs to around 500 local people in the construction and setup of a LED lighting and Hybrid Energy Power Assembly Plant in Epe, which we expect to be the main future source of ingenious sustainable energy systems in and around Africa.

Natural night vision, or mesopic vision, is the ability to see under low-light conditions, conditions in which the people of Lagos have been dealing with for years – because of this and the dramatic change in lighting conditions we’ve now reduced the original power output by a further 60% to prevent dazzling road users and pedestrians who have travelled through lower-light conditions. This helps keep road and street users safe whilst saving the state even more in energy consumption and associated costs.

Our fully automated and remotely controlled system allows the end user to be in complete control of the light output, power and fault maintenance, allowing for real-time monitoring, control, and analysis all from a central control hub.

Light Up Lagos has been conceived to light up major highways and streets in the Lagos metropolis with the ultimate goal of boosting commercial activities, enhancing security, improving the citizenry’s standard of living as well as boosting the aesthetics of the State.

Phase 1 is now complete with phases 2-5 already underway and is already delivering on our original promises to reduce the states energy consumption, create local jobs and enhance security; it won’t be long before we see a boost in commercial activities in and around Lagos state.
