Project: To achieve better colour temperature, cri and light levels

PRODUCTS USED:

The Brief -

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global leader in scientific research services, sought to enhance their laboratory lighting system to improve the working environment for their staff. Their existing lighting setup comprised of LED lights with amber filters. Despite the advantages of this setup, the organisation aimed to achieve a better colour temperature, Colour Rendering Index (CRI), and light levels, while maintaining strict ultraviolet (UV) light exposure limits.

The Solution -

To address these objectives, Thermo Fisher collaborated with lighting experts, Low Energy Designs to design and implement a new LED lighting system. The existing lights were replaced with Low Energy Designs' LumiROD, which was specifically made to match the requirements of Fisher Clinical’s needs. Additionally, intelligent sensors from Hytronik were included within the lights to increase energy savings. These sensors provide motion detection, so when no one is around, the lights will dim and even turn off completely until motion is detected again.

The LED lighting upgrade at Thermo Fisher was a successful initiative that enhanced the working environment by improving colour temperature, CRI values, and light levels while maintaining stringent UV safety standards. This case study highlights the importance of customised lighting solutions in specialised settings such as scientific laboratories and demonstrates how careful planning and execution can lead to significant improvements in workplace conditions.

Thermo Fisher Horsham had a project to replace existing amber lighting fittings used for UV-sensitive products. We approached Low Energy Designs for an amber LED filtered fitting that would meet our specifications for light-sensitive products while also increasing illuminance for our operational staff. LED provided a solution that perfectly matched our needs. The new lighting was installed in our ground and first-floor packing cabins over two weekends, with full testing. We received great service and professionalism throughout the project.
