The Brief -
As part of a broader energy efficiency initiative, Bishop Aldhelm’s CE Primary School embarked on a project to modernise its lighting. The primary objectives were to reduce energy consumption, lower maintenance costs, and enhance lighting quality throughout the school. This case study focuses on a single classroom, to showcase the specific improvements achieved by upgrading to LED lighting. For a full overview of the school-wide project, please see the main case study here.
In Classroom G.012, the old lighting setup consisted of 12 x 5ft fluorescent tubes running at 116 watts each. These fixtures consumed considerable energy and required frequent maintenance, adding to operational costs and sometimes disrupting classroom activities.
The Solution -
The new lighting setup replaced these outdated fluorescent fixtures with just 6 x BattenLITE 5 CCT, achieving the following benefits:
Cost saving of: 91% (£1010.59 to £82.37)
Increased lux levels by: 80% (from 250 to 450)
Reduced the total wattage by: 91% (1392 to 124.8 watts)
Reduced number of fittings by: 50% (from 12 to 6)
The LED lighting upgrade in Classroom G.012 serves as a small-scale example of the considerable benefits that LED technology brings to educational environments. By investing in high-quality LED solutions, Bishop Aldhelm’s CE Primary School is not only reducing its energy usage but also fostering a more positive and sustainable learning environment for its pupils. This classroom-focused case study reinforces the broader success of the school’s lighting modernisation efforts and sets a standard for other schools seeking similar improvements in energy efficiency and lighting quality.
