Project: To reduce operational costs by changing to LED lighting

The Brief -

Bromford Industries is a privately owned enterprise trading on a global basis, supplying precision machined components, fabrications and assemblies to leading OEM's in the aerospace, defence, marine, power generation and nuclear markets, demonstrating an impressive health and safety culture.

Bromford Industries wanted to reduce their operational costs and CO2 emissions. After Low Energy Designs evaluated their site and put together an extensive lighting design, Bromford jumped at the chance to lower there energy usage by 80%

Bromford wanted to focus on 3 areas of their factory; The main factory, outside loading area and the boiler room. The main factory consisted of 144 x Son T lights, each running at 440 watts. The outside loading area had 12 x 70 watt 6ft fluorescent tubes and the boiler room consisted of 4 x 70 watt 6ft fluorescent tubes.

The Solution -

We replaced the 144 x Son T lights that were located in the main factory, with 144 of our LumiOPTIMA 5218. The LumiOPTIMA 5218 is a powerful high bay LED luminaire which runs at 171 watts. The LumiOPTIMA comes with a built-in PIR which provides motion detection, maintained light levels and daylight harvesting. Motion detection is perfect for areas with times of low footfall. If motion is undetected the luminaire will reduce in power and light output which increases savings. Maintained light levels will provide a consistent light output regardless of natural light. Daylight harvesting increases savings by adjusting the light level according to the ambient (natural) light levels.

This means that when natural light comes through the luminaires automatically reduce the light output or switch off completely if the required lux level is met from natural light. Utilising all 3 of these intelligent controls will provide Bromford with maximum savings.

Outside in the loading area we replaces 12 x 6ft tubes with 12 of our LumiROD 419. The LumiROD 419 is an 8- watt, 4ft linear LED product with a high IP rating of 66, which makes this a perfect solution for harsher environments. This product also includes a built-in PIR which provides motion detection, maintained light levels and daylight harvesting.

In the boiler room we replaced 4 x 6ft tubes with 4 of our LumiROD 414, part of the LumiROD range this product runs at a lower power of 36 watts and also includes the built-in PIR, providing the same functions as above.
