Project: To reduce energy and maintenance costs

The Brief -

Paper Tech Europe Ltd offers the most comprehensive range of paper cases and baking molds in the UK and is part of Novacart group, which is a world leading company in the production of paper and cardboard products for bakery and food use.

Paper Tech's manufacturing facility in Portsmouth wanted to upgrade their outdated lighting whilst reducing energy and maintenance costs. After surveying the site, our team prepared a lighting design using Relux light planning software to re-light the interior using our lights tested ies. files. The software calculates the light levels to ensure that lighting standards and requirements are met. In this case we made sure the production area meets an average of 350 lux. This data is then used to compile a detailed return of investment which was proposed to the Paper Tech team.

The Solution -

The SmartROD was installed in the production area which has large roof skylights to allow for natural daylight. With this in mind we incorporated intelligent microwave sensors which provide Daylight Harvesting and Presence Detection.

Daylight Harvesting will automatically adjust the light output according to the natural light levels the sensor receives from the roof skylights. These intelligent sensors have the ability to provide even further savings on sunny days and areas with low footfall.

A colour temperature of 5000 kelvin is used to provide a light similar to natural daylight, this colour temperature helps to improve visibility as the daylight white light makes colours and movements more easily perceived by the eye which in turn helps increase Health and Safety in working areas.

As a business we are delighted with the instillation of the LED lighting provided by Low Energy Designs. The improvement and the quality of the lighting is clear to be seen with all staff commenting on the improvement with a more natural light feel. Low Energy Designs have delivered on there promise and in turn as a business we will benefit from the energy savings moving forward.
