Since this was a new installation there is no comparative data. However, we expect the energy and CO2 savings to have been over 40% against traditional lighting fixtures.

Project: To improve the quality of playing inside the tennis centre by installing LED lighting.

The Brief -

Sherborne Girls School is a prestigious boarding and day school for girls aged 11 - 18. The school first opened in 1898 and quickly gained a reputation as a school with high academic standards. Within 3 years the school became so popular they had to move to their current site on Bradford Road to accommodate the large number of students.

When Sherborne Girls School first contacted us they requested an energy efficient product to illuminate their outdoor tennis courts. Since each and every application we undertake is unique we carried out a lighting design so we could assess the best possible energy efficient lighting solution for Sherborne.

The Solution -

The lighting solution that provided the best results was one of our newest products, the SunSHINE. We installed 24 x LED SunSHINE5 lights onto 6.7m high poles. We angled the lights so they illuminate the whole court but minimise light pollution effecting the surrounding areas.

Unobtrusive by day and extremely effective at night, the SunSHINE floodlight ensures maximum energy efficiency with a high quality light output. The SunSHINE provides a number of benefits especially in sporting applications. For this installation a colour temperature of 5500 kelvins was chosen to help define colours, movements and objects more clearly, thus providing a better overall playing experience for the girls at Sherborne.

These LED lights come on instantly with no warm up period required, so more time for play! The SunSHINE casing is manufactured using corrosion resistant aluminium which makes the product extremely durable and able to withstand the toughest conditions.

Because the LED modules are independently controlled any failure to one module will not effect the rest of the modules and the current will be evenly distributed between the working modules, thus protecting the whole system and making sure the life span of the product is as long as possible. We also took into consideration that these luminaire will be installed in higher operating environments, normally above 6m, through careful design we've made sure operators will require as few tools as possible for their convenience and security.

The initial survey and subsequent work was carried out with the minimum of fuss and in accordance with the programme agreed. The end result is great value and it is good to have a scheme that is energy efficient and as green as possible yet gives light levels that satisfy the appropriate UK Sports England artificial lighting standards. We are very happy with the result.
