Expected results compared to the previous lighting:

  1. 68% annual CO2 saving

  2. The cost of energy and maintenance is estimated to be 68% lower

  3. The number of luminaires were reduced by over 52% (54 to 26 luminaires) despite a significantly higher light intensity in the room.

Extra benefits from our LED solution:

  1. The visibility has improved since the daylight white light makes the colours and movements more easily perceived by the eye.

  2. Future-proof system

  3. Wire Guards for extra protection from ball strikes

Project: To provide a future-proof LED lighting solution in the school gym.

The Brief -

Foundation Vackstanäsgymnasiet is a fantastic high school, which is beautifully situated by the lake Gruel south of the city Sweden. Vackstanäsgymnasiet wanted to invest in new LED lighting for the school gym.

The old fluorescent lighting fixtures were hanging on wires in the ceiling and at high altitude. The floor of the sports hall is very sensitive, which means that any replacement of lighting fixtures is complicated and involves a high cost. Vackstanäsgymnasiet wanted a future-proof lighting solution which had various beneficial features such as energy saving, long life, high quality and robustness. It was also important to increase the level of light in the hall so that the sports clubs could play different games and at different levels of competition.

The old lighting had an average illuminance of around 300 lux and the new LED lighting solution is designed to provide 750 lux average illuminance.

The Solution -

The LumiOPTIMA 5218 was chosen as the new LED solution. This low-energy product has a large light output of 26 000 lumens and a built-in combined light and motion sensor.

With an efficiency of 150 lumens/watt the LumiOPTIMA 5218 it is a real light machine. A variant with daylight 5300 Kelvin colour temperature was chosen in order to increase the visibility inside the hall. This daylight white light is also invigorating and increases the concentration of users in the hall.

The luminaires are fully dimmable from 0-100% and are divided into three zones with three wall-mounted dimmers and a timer. This creates flexibility and a balance between performance and power saving. The luminaires have a micro-prism lens to minimise glare and this provides a significantly better light distribution than traditional fluorescent fixtures. This means a very uniform illumination with marginal shadows and better conditions to play in for the athletes.

The luminaires are also equipped with wire guards. These guards are a steel mesh that protects the luminaire and takes the impact if sports equipment strike.
