LED lighting Upgrade:

Mekonomen, Sweden

Replace 1951 lights with only 570 LED lights!

mekonomen-200x200.png

Expected results compared to the previous lighting:

  1. Brighter and fresher warehouse

  2. Over 66% energy savings

  3. Total installed power in the new lighting solution is estimated to be over 57% lower

  4. The total cost (Life Cycle Cost) is estimated to be 54% lower over a 10-year period

Extra benefits from our LED solution:

  1. Visibility has improved since the daylight white light makes the colours and movements more easily perceived by the eye

  2. The number of luminaires decreased by over 71% (from 1951 to 570 pieces) despite a higher luminous intensity in the room.

Project: To improve Mekonomen’s global sustainability by switching to LED lighting

The Brief -

Mekonomen Nordic is part of the Mekonomen Group together with MECA Scandinavia and Sørensen og Balchen. Mekonomen Nordic has operations in Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Mekonomen runs an active environmental and quality programme where the most important local issues are to work with transport, energy consumption and chemicals. Mekonomen's Global sustainability work takes place on the basis of the UN Global Compact's principles of human rights, environment, working environment and corruption. This sustainability work led to the central warehouse in Strängnäs looking for a new and energy-efficient lighting solution.

The old lighting provided an average illuminance in the premises of approximately 270 lux and the new lighting solution is designed for 300 lux in average illuminance.

The Solution -

The LumiOPTIMA 5218 was chosen in the lower parts (6-7 meters high) of the warehouse. This smart LED luminaire has a high luminous flux of approx. 26,000 lumens. In the higher parts of the warehouse (12m), our LumiMOD 54 was selected with 39,200 lumens.

In this case both types of lighting have been equipped with built-in combined light and motion control. The luminaires are set to dim down to 20% power after 10 minutes from the last detected movement. They can easily be reconfigured to other settings using a wireless remote control from the floor.

With an energy efficiency of over 165 lumens/watt, these luminaires are real light machines. A daylight white variant of 5300 Kelvin in colour temperature was chosen to increase the visibility of the room. This daylight white light also seems invigorating and improves the concentration of those working in the warehouse.

The luminaires at lower altitudes have a micro-prism lens that minimises glare but gives significantly better light distribution than traditional fluorescent luminaires. This means that the light is distributed evenly in the room and is also spreads onto the shelves. The luminaires at a height of 12 metres have lenses around the diodes to better concentrate the light on the floor from higher heights, but also illuminates the shelving.
