Project: To install an energy-efficient solution to increase their current light levels while reducing maintenance and operational costs.

The Brief -

Kingsgate Lawn Tennis Club in Winchester reached out to us after receiving one of our email campaigns, expressing their interest in transitioning to LED lighting. They were seeking an energy-efficient solution to increase their current light levels while reducing maintenance and operational costs.

The Solution -

The club had two outdoor tennis courts which were illuminated by traditional green boxes with 6 x 1 kW bulbs. Replacing floodlights for tennis courts can be both expensive and disruptive, however, we determined that the most suitable and cost-effective solution was to provide our “Green Box LED Retrofit” using our unique lens configuration. This solution replaces the existing bulbs, ballast and control gear with our LED module plate which fits inside the existing “Green box” housing. Our company’s unique approach towards each individual project works to deliver the best possible design and solution to meet the client’s specific needs and budget whilst providing the maximum energy savings.

To optimize the lighting system for this project, we utilized our unique lens configuration, specifically designed for sports applications. By installing the LED lights perpendicular to the ground, this lens provides significant advantages in sports environments. It effectively reduces glare, offers excellent visual comfort for players, and ensures an even distribution of light across the tennis courts.

As part of our comprehensive service, we conducted a commissioning visit to assess the light levels and make any necessary adjustments. We meticulously documented the results and measurements from the commissioning process, ensuring compliance with the criteria set by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association). In line with the LTA's requirements, we conducted 117 measurements at specific points. For this project no adjustments were required and all LTA criteria were successfully met.

From the initial meeting on site to the completion of the installation to retrofit new LED luminaires, the project was undertaken professionally and completed to the satisfaction of all concerned. The new lighting is excellent with light levels and uniformity meeting the LTA design criteria. Coaches and Players alike are delighted with the vast improvement.”
